Toybox Great Denham has a history dating back to when the original directors opened a nursery in 1998. The other, former, Toybox Day Nurseries in Biggleswade, Sandy and Stotfold have been rebranded as a result of being sold in February 2013 but Great Denham continues with the same name, ethos and award winning childcare. Toybox Great Denham was bought by Busy Bees Nurseries Ltd on 1st August 2017 and continues to be manager Jen Grimshaw who has managed the setting since its opening in April 2013.
Toybox Great Denham has been purpose built to reflect all the very best in current childcare thinking, it is operated on a day to day basis by a group of former Toybox Day Nurseries staff carefully selected to provide outstanding childcare, the Toybox way, through inspirational staff. Toybox Great Denham will reflect all the best practices learnt over the previous years, but will also challenge itself in continuous professional development. Don’t forget…..
Toybox was founded by Jackie in 1998 as a result of her not finding the childcare she required to manage her family needs. She had set about building from scratch a nursery in Sandy, a year earlier. The criteria was simple, a purpose built facility that would put the care of the children first, and allow parents the flexibility they required with extended opening times. The concept of mixing the corporate style of nursery in design with family values was an instant winner and soon the nursery was running at capacity.
In 2001 plans were drawn up for the next Toybox Day Nursery in Biggleswade. This facility was completed in autumn 2002. Biggleswade being a much bigger town than Sandy resulted in the new nursery being about twice the size of the original in Sandy. The ethos of Toybox was continued with another purpose built facility mixed with family values.
It was as a result of her family growing up, that in autumn 2004 the 'Loft' was opened in Biggleswade. It was clear that the children locally didn't have any ‘before and after school’ childcare and were not catered for in the school holidays from 8am - 6pm.
Sandy opened its own 'Loft' in late spring 2006...
In 2008 Toybox achieved its long term ambition of a third nursery, in a cluster on the A1 corridor, with the purchase of The Grange in Stotfold, this beautiful old farmhouse being carefully converted into a modern, bright and airy facility.
In 2012 land was secured to build a fourth nursery. The build programme for Toybox Great Denham started in the autumn and completed in the spring of 2013, with our new nursery open on 2nd April 2013.
In February 2013 the cluster of three nurseries in Biggleswade, Sandy and Stotfold was bought be Treetops. This sale has enabled Jackie, Chris and the team focus on just one nursery to ensure it is the best in Bedfordshire.
In August 2017 Chris and Jackie made the decision to retire and sold to Busy Bees Nurseries Ltd. Chris and Jackie leave behind a long standing staff base who continue to work hard every day to ensure the Toybox reputation is maintained for the future. Jen continues to lead practice in the Nursery alongside our new family company and look forward to keeping Toybox's outstanding reputation both locally and nationally.
Toybox Great Denham remains at the heart of the local community meeting the ever changing demands of parents and schools alike. Our businesses move with the times and will evolve to meet the challenges that lie ahead.
