Overview of Under 2’s Unit

The ratio is one member of staff to three babies/infants.

We fully understand the need of peace of mind knowing that your child is in a safe and caring environment. Your child is your most precious gift and we understand the trust and commitment that you put in us.

We aim is to ensure that all babies receive love, plenty of cuddles, have all their basic needs met on demand (e.g. food, sleep and nappy changes) and feel secure. Every child is an individual with their own routine, likes, dislikes and needs. These are fully respected and with the high staff ratio and small groups we endeavour to meet these needs in accordance to your child's needs and your own personal wishes.

Our staff are dedicated to providing the love and care your baby needs. The under 2’s units have their own play area, quiet room for sleeping in, milk kitchen and changing room. Each baby is allocated a cot, and their own bedding, which we supply that is laundered regularly on the premises.

We provide babies with as much environmental stimulation as possible within that loving and comfortable framework. Soft toys, play, cuddles, stories and time in the garden all form part of your baby’s day.

Colour, sound, shape and texture are all new experiences, which need to be investigated and enjoyed and through treasure baskets and activities these can be explored by providing an array of resources that stimulates and encourages curiosity.

In order to achieve this, daily activities are planned by professional Early Years Educators in accordance with the 'Early Years Foundation Stage' framework. These activities are recorded and are available for you to view at any time. They include painting, sand and water, cooking, exploring with pasta (raw and cooked) baked bean play, gloop and many more. All activities promote hand eye co-ordination; fine motor skills and most importantly GREAT FUN! Care is taken to ensure that the activities are within the ability of each child, are varied and promote all areas of development.

Physical activities, tactile and sensory stimulation, communication, music and movement, songs, instruments and stories are enjoyed by children of all ages and promote gross motor skills as well as listening and repetitive memory skills. Free expression is promoted with creative activities, intellectual activities, outside play and outings.

A large, but age separated, garden area ensures plenty of fresh air and the opportunity to discover their natural environment. We also have prams and pushchairs that allow us to take the children out for walks around the village so they are able to enjoy the world around them.

The children's development is assessed which enables us to detect areas in the child's development that would benefit from further support.

A daily on line diary containing the events of the day is shared with parents and we encourage home input and continuity of care. This partnership with parents/carers and the role of your key person are vitally important especially with very young children as routines can change frequently.

Every child has an online learning journey full of photographs and details of milestones and examples of nursery activities. Each child also has a 'key person' who will work in partnership with you to ensure your child’s individual needs can be met.

All this may sound a little complicated for babies, but remember that it is possible for a six month old child to play in water, sand and to make a mess with paint...and they love it!

As your child grows, we continually liaise with you through the stages of weaning, crawling, walking and toilet training, being on hand to advise you and to provide you with written progress reports.

Nursing mothers are encouraged to visit during the day, if they are able to, and expressed milk can be accommodated.
